Kids toys…blue trucks and construction toys for boy and pink dolls and toy kitchens for girls. Yes, somethings have changed and it isn’t as bad as it used to be, but for the most part when you visit the toy store that’s the sort of thing you’ll find. Well, a company by the name of GoldieBlox which was founded by a female engineer (Debbie Sterling) in 2012 thought that maybe it was time to shake up the toy market for little girls and do something different. Well, she did and doing an AMAZING job with it! I know I’ve mentioned GoldieBlox on my facebook group a while back but thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to revisit the topic now that my Sammy Baby is getting older and I’m always looking for great educational toys for her.
Stats show that 89% men dominate the world of engineers. That’s a pretty big group leaving only 11% to women 🙁 and something that Debbie wants to change. She wants little girls to know that they are more than just a princess and that they can be whatever they want to be…engineers included ;).
So what is GoldieBlox? GoldieBlox are construction toys made specifically for little girls to inspire the future generation of female engineers. It’s time to disrupt the pink aisle at the toy store!
