Tasty Tuesdays ~ Café Mocha Protein Shake

1185994_633623310042746_1984374682_nAs we prepare for back to school, schedule routines, meals and outfits, there is one thing you need to ensure that you do not forget… COFFEE to get your day going!

While dropping off my older boys at school, I like to take advantage of the Family & Literacy programs with my toddler. The distance to the centre is approximately 7kms from our home, so I try to supplement my breakfast with both Coffee and a Protein Shake-in 1, before my run. Not only do I get my much needed fuel to run the distance, but I don’t feel like eating a bull by the horns upon reaching my destination.

This recipe calls for only 4 ingredients! Simple as ever and stress free. I like to use the “4 stage release” Chocolate Love protein powder by Magnum Quattro. This protein powder provides you with a feeling of fullness for approximately 3 hours. Perfect right! I don’t get cramps during my run, nor do I feel queazy after consuming it.

You will absolutely love the taste of this shake, and the best part is…you don’t need an expensive high powered blender to keep it frothy and delicious. In all honesty, I use my stainless steel Black & Decker Blender from Walmart that costs less than $50 (on sale of course).

Give this recipe a try, and I promise it will be one of your go-to’s going forward.

CAFÉ MOCHA PROTEIN SHAKE

Preparation Time: 3 minutes
Total Time: 6-7 minutes

Ingredients:

1 tbsp Flax Seeds
1/2 cup Fat Free Vanilla Yogurt, or 1 Activia 100g cup of Vanilla Yogurt (supplement with Coconut, Almond or Soy Yogurt as a Vegetarian option)
12 oz Cold Coffee
1 scoop Chocolate Flavoured Protein Powder (Magnum Quattro – Chocolate Love)
Coffee “ice cubes” for a refreshing Frappé consistency, optional* (freeze leftover coffee in a ice cube tray overnight)

Directions:

1. Mill the flax seeds in the blender on high until “flour like”.
2. Add the remaining ingredients and blend on high until frothy.
3. Pour into a “to go” cup and enjoy!
